will I have heating problems if I fill the coolant passages in a 351c halfway up with hard block?

I don't know. Ive run several half filled blocks over the years and never had a problem. You'll have to increase your cooling capacity ie a bigger radiator and higher flowing fan but you can make it work.

After running this weekend, I wouldn't do it....

Mine is a 351w block, filled to the top of the water pump holes, then I added a small hole so that coolant would circulate. I broke my good aluminum radiator last week, so I had to put my good ol' Maverick 3 row back in....

It liked to heat up, and it's runnign on alcohol. Usually heat is not a problem--it is more of a problem to get it to warm up than anything else. Well, this weekend--I found that I had to use the e-fan more this weekend than I've used it in the last 2 1/2 years combined...and even then, after I shut it off, the temp would slowly creep back up (the concrete doesn't cool very well).
