71yr 351w vs 351w sportman3 block

I have a 71 351w, with 4 bolt main caps. The combo will be a 421. I have 4340 steel crank and rods, ross piston, super vic intake, 1050 hp carb. The heads are jegs/kaase. I plan to run about (300) shot of nos. I have a few question? How much power will the stock block hold? How much power will the sportman block with the 4bolt main caps? or the block about equal? Any advice or suggestion? Thanks guys

If your '71 block has 4 bolt mains, someone "added" them. Ford didn't make any production 4 bolts that I know of.

The Ford "Sportsman III" 351W block ( B58 ) is a 2 bolt main and the catalog lists the hp at 700 @ 7000 rpm.

The Ford N351 block is a 4 bolt main and listed at 750 hp @ 8600 rpm.


If you're going to stroke a 351W and hit it with a 300 shot.....I'd go for a Dart block myself.

I just had a early block fitted with splayed 4 bolt caps and I'm planning on 150 hp limit with 425 inches. I figure 600 for the motor and 150 more will put it at the limt. If your motor runs up to potental 300 hp more will put it way past the danger zone IMO.[img]/forums/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif[/img]
