Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

Greetings,

If you guys think that the issues with T&L are isolated, go to the gt40.com forums, T&L engines: Quality Control?. After reading this post, and looking at the pictures, I decided to look at my own engine. Sure enough, misaligned rocker arms. Contacted Lloyd, he asked that I send him some pictures. I did this, no reply. Sent several messages, no reply. Offered to change the rocker arms myself, if he would supply the parts. He offered to sell me the rocker arms. Pretty good warranty!!! On the GT40 forum, he replaced the rocker arms for some of the guys there. The complaints with T&L are getting more frequent, and he is just ignoring them. I don't know what to do now, other than file a suit in small claims court. But a judgement is hard to enforce from across the country. I guess a person has to decide for themselves if the frustration is worth doing business with T&L. It isn't for me. I learned a valuable lesson here. Do your shopping at a local shop.
My engine is a 383 stroker, 200 CC Dart Pro 1 heads, all forged internals, Comp Cams blower cam, hydraulic roller lifters, Weiand 177 Blower. It is supposed to have splayed main bearing caps.

Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

Maybe we should talk to each other about this problem with T and L. I ordered an engine from them on the 22nd of November, 2007. I am about ready to take a plane to North Carolina to find out what is going on. I was told my engine would arrive on the 24th or 25th of March, 2008. This is after a 18 week wait. I was even given a shippers number for R and L Trucking. The engine didn't show and I called R and L to find out they knew of no shipment from T and L to where I am. Maybe all of us should get together on a class action suit. They won't answer the phone or e-mails. I am very upset with this guy. Anyone who has had the problems that I am having should contact me.

Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

I have an appointment to talk with my lawyer next week. It is my understanding, that a company that does business over the Internet, makes the location of the deal, in the state in which it was paid for. So, that would mean if I file suit, T&L would have to travel to Washington to defend their position. Have to see what my lawyer says. I have filed a complaint with the BBB. But they already have an F rating with them, so obviously they don't care about their reputation, or treating their customers right. Is anyone from North Carolina, that could shed some sort of legal light on the local laws?

Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

I HATE to hear what you guys are going through. And to think that at one point I was considering ordering an engine from them!
I just wonder at what point they are going to stop building engines all together and just go out of business with everyone's money in hand. They can always file bankruptcy and then reopen under a different name soon after. Those fly-by-night furniture stores do this all the time. I would recommend getting a resolution or your legal action underway soon before it is too late! If he already has an "F" rating with the BBB and he's pretty much taken the phone off the hook because of all the angry customers, he won't be able to sustain his business very much longer.

Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

I have seen and worked on a 408 from T&L.
First fired the engine and heard a bunch of racket, found out the rockers were hitting the valve cover baffles. When we pulled the covers off, they had double gaskets? WTF, from a "Nascar" shop, and then we found where they had already beat the baffles up into the covers with a hammer.(some real top notch junk)
After many unreturned phone calls, the owner finally recieved the right valve covers.
After a few miles the oil pump siezed, it was repaired by a local shop.
They CLAIM to be a "Nascar" shop, bull ****. They may have at one time built a Nascar engine, but that does not mean that they are still in the game.
Would a reputable builder, sell there stuff on Ebay?
10 dollar an hour monkeys throwing half ass parts together. Good luck to anyone that is sucked in.
I have seen enough to know better.

Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

Ok, I posted my woes earlier but check this out.

4 weeks ago I called Lloyd for a status update. He actually told me that the engine was done, dyno'd, and ready to ship. He was surprised that no one had contacted me for shipping and final payment details. The "girl" was out sick but she would call me on Monday.

Two weeks go by, I call Lloyd back. He tells me she is out again but he will check the status and call me in 1 hour.

Another week goes by and I get no answer. Then this past Monday I called again but got no answer. A friend of mine went by the shop to see if he could see my engine. It did exist as the number is stamped into the engine. He took some pictures.

Now, bear in mind that this is a turnkey engine with a lot of shiny parts like March pulley system, endurashine intake, polished valve covers, etc., etc.

I am not an expert but does anyone think this engine is done, dyno'd and ready to ship?

Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

A buddy of mine ordered a chevy 420 stroker from these clowns. After about a month he called them and found that they didnt have anything ready. After weeks and weeks more like 2 more months he gets a hold of them to find out that the motor is being built(supposedly). Another month goes by and he recieves a dyno sheet and is told it is ready to ship. Only problem is someone from Hawaii has ordered the same exact motor and they "mistakenly" shipped it to them in Hawaii. Then they tell him that it will take another 4 to 6 weeks to build. At this point he tells them that he wants his deposit back and they say that they do not have the money. They say that they are only making about 200 on each motor. Anyway he has them send pics as they are building the motor and they tried to supplement different parts then what he ordered. He caught it and the corrected it but they have been a real pain in the A$$. He finally got his motor on weds after only 6 months of fighting and waiting.

I went with M&R Engines for my 331 stroker and got it in about 2.5 weeks. It has been in for about a year and is running smooth with no issues.

I would avoid them like the plaque but it is always your choice.... Choose wisely...

Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

If they are only making 200 per engine then they are as big of idiots as there work and performance implies.
I used to hear a few good things about them, but lately it has only been negitive, sure doesnt sound good for there future.

That's because it's a Chevy! That's why they need to rework the firewall in everything they get swapped into! JD
