Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

To readers of this forum:

I can really appreciate all the comments above about some negative comments and there are always two sides to the story. I do not have an axe to grind with T&L. I have tried to be completely factual about my experience. I am faced with a big challenge now as I have my engine. I have not run this yet. I had to replace the oil pan and oil pump because I did not specify rear sump. (My fault) In doing so, the engine guy found some alarming things. The engine came from T&L and has not been run since coming off the Dyno. I have cylinders that are already scored. The base of the block has a large indentation around the oil pan lip that is difficult to seal with the gasket and sealer.

Here are some pictures.

I am going to call them now and see how they respond but I am really gutted. This is a brand new engine going into my dream car. I am not an expert, I am not a racer, I am just a guy who wanted a nice engine in his hot rod.

I guess I will post what happens next. By the way I have posted on here a few times now. I ordered my engine October 2007 and it arrived in May 2008.

I know you've had a bad experiance but I think your being a little critical about the Scuffs, its not unusual to get some light scuffing on the cylinder walls.

Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

Clean up the pan rail thoroughly, scuff it, and then mix up a little 24hr JB weld and put it on the rail. Do not fill the pan bolt hole and try to keep the JB out of it as much as possible. Smooth it out and when it dries, lightly sand the rail flat and run a tap down the oil pan bolt hole.

I had to use this technique on a NOS 351w block that I bought of ebay and it has held up well.

Thanks for the input. I do not know enough about engines to tell what is normal or not. The guy that opened it up said that this was an indication that the tolerances were too tight and that I would lose compression over time. He was surprised to see this after only about an hour of run time for the life of the engine. I will talk to Lloyd and see what he says.

Some visual marks yeah, but if you can feel the accual scuffs with your fingure, your screwed.
I would also pop the valve covers and check the rocker alignment, this has also been a problem with T&L.

Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

Hi there everyone, I just wanted to chime in, I am having the same issue you are!!!! What the hell...%4850 invested so far, was told 6-8 weeks on June 4th 2008, still no engine, 6 months did they mean?? After reading all the posts on different forums, I decided as a 19 y.o. college student that I will be the first to step up, since no one else has. My aunt is talking to an attorney tomorrow, possibly for a class action lawsuit. Anyone in, if so email me at gooly02@aol.com, this is ridiculous, this is a lot of money to me, all my savings. By the way, my engine was on the dyno next week 5 weeks ago, and 2 weeks ago it was getting ready to be built. Let's do something together. Get in touch with me.

Re: T&L ENGINES IN N.C.

Hey all - I have received a number of Private Messages and emails asking for the name of my attorney, specifics, etc. regarding my post in this thread here. Please re-read and note this was NOT with T&L or about their engines. It was about another company and other parts. The lawyer I used and the details are irrelevant to you. It was only an example of something I did in a similar situation that worked.

PLEASE do not PM or email me for more info. If you have a legitimate claim with anyone you need to contact your own sources (your attorney, Consumer Advocate's office, etc.) for guidance about what to do. It's not that hard.

Good luck!
