Budget \"home stroker\" windsor 408

I read in a past post that someone built a 408 using a 400m crank, 351w piston and a modified chevy 350 (5.7) rod. The post states "built for less than $400". Does anybody have a write up on this combo? What machine work is needed to make this combo work? Any information would be helpful.

Thanks,
Ron

I could be wrong (have been once or twice) but everything I have read on doing this has said its way to much work and money at the machine shop to realy save any money. Small block stoker kits are pretty cheap these days I would hate to spend alot of time and money on something that might not turn out how you thought.

The last time I had a cranks main journals turned down it was a 455 pontiac crank to fit into a 400 pontiac block . I was buulding it for a friend. The crank work was $580 by the time it was balanced and the throws indexed. It one of those things...if you own a machine shop or your brother in law is an automotive machinist then you could do it cheap. If you walk into a production shop and try to get a bargain then best of luck to you.

I have not yet build a one stroker, but I´ve been doing some research on prices... I think the Cheapest stroker is 3.85 crank(ebay 150$), 302 pistons and stock/truck rods.

BUT, while you are up there, why not do it properly. With a 1000$ stoker kit you get a lot more. You can even rev past 5500...

my ,25$

far too much money to have that 400 crank worked on. Either a full kit crank, rod, pistons, rings, bearings or use a 3.85 crank, 5.956 rod and 302 piston.
