331 vs 347 stroker motor

Looking to up-grade from a 302 crate to stroker. I've read the 347 burn/use oil because of the wrist pin intersecting the oil ring, I think many people using 347 in street application. My goal is to have the good power...but still have a good daily driver ie don't want it using oil. Comment from 331 and 347 street user.

Thanks!

Build the 347.

The "use oil" issue is a non-issue in a properly designed and assembled 347.

Use a 5.315 rod if you're concerned about the pin intersecting the oil ring package.

The shorter rod 347 eliminates any potential for problems. Probe makes the piston. Both Probe and Scat make/sell a rod. Its just too easy a "fix" not to do it if you have any concerns at all...

My DD 5.4 rod 347 doesn't burn oil.... As said above it is all about the assembly.

The main problem with the 347 is that at higher rpm the piston puts higher than normal pressure on the side of the cylinders compared to a 331. This is due to the longer stroke and rod ratio.
But many have successfully utilized the 347. Personally, I have chose the 331 for my Mustang and had good results too. After doing alot of research and talking with many experts I decided on the 331.

Rod ratio again huh?

Take a look at this thread and note the opinion of Barry R.

i bought the scat 331 kit thinking i would get the oil ring above the wrist pin. i wanted the blower pistons,so it brought my rings down(more heat tolerant)guess where my oil ring is.................! sombitches.cant tell any difference at all,no oil consumption no blow by,do the 347.i would deff do a after market block.DART/FMS BOSS.think about it.over 2k in a rotateing assy and a thin wall block, you'll sleep better at night.
