oil level - oops

My 3.85 stroke 393 is fully assembled and I did not check to see where the rod ends where with respect to the top of the oil. I am using this 8 qt Milodon pan.

Any clever ideas on how to figure this out without dropping the pan?

OR

Is anyone else using this pan with a 393ci that was more clever than me and noted how many quarts were required to keep the rods out of the oil.

I would think you could measure down from the center line of the crank, taking into consideration the journal dia., the thickness of the rod, and the angle that the rod will pass through the pan area at.
Remember, you are only adding an extra .192 to the throw on the low side, it probably wont take much more than 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart to bring it down that far.

Thanks to the help of Frdnut and others, we have the answer.

For a 3.85 stroke 393, the rod ends dip down about 4" below the pan rail. With a Milodon 30926 pan

With 8 US quarts
Assuming 7.3 US quarts in the pan, and 0.7 quarts in the filter the rod ends would be just kissing the top of the oil.

With 7 US quarts
Assuming 6.3 US quarts in the pan, and 0.7 quarts in the filter the rod ends should miss the oil by about a 1/4" or so.
