Hopefully I'll find all 500 of them once I get the valve body in this AOD you love so much straightened out!!! Thanks!
At this point, I'm loving this AOD about as much as you are!

I know that AOD are pretty tough up to 450HP but then it gets a little dicey! If you have a found someone that has a lot of experise with them, it will work out. Did you ever think about a 9" inch rear? I noticed in the other article from the pics you were, i thought, running an 8" inch. It will be alot of fun. And I think you will like the results when it all comes together.

Re: Cheap becomes expensive

This "Demon" AOD is supposed to be good for 600 horses. We'll see!

Actually I was looking for a 9" rearend at the time the rear suspension was going together, but I couldn't find one for the right price. A guy here in the local Mustang club had this complete working 8" for cheap, so I put in an Auburn posi unit, new 3.55 ring and pinion, new bearings/seals, and installed the disc brakes. I'll keep it as long as it holds up!
Hopefully with an automatic and a 2800 stall non lock-up converter it will hold up for a while. If/when it breaks, I'll go looking for a 9" again and the rear disc brakes will bolt right up to one of those as well so long as it has the small bearings.

Re: Cheap becomes expensive

AOD's are acutualy a very strong Transmission with the proper mods it just $$$$$$$$$$ to make them work. C4 are much Cheaper and simpler.

I know what you mean about finding one for the right price(9" inch housing). I will probably have to save my pennies and bite the bullet and get one from Currie or a few other folk I have talked too. I am going to put one in my 66. It was a 200/3 spd car. I have a nice t-5 and bellhousing for the SB swap. All I need is a 9"inch. I even have a center section, 28 spline traction lock. It will do fine for the 306 I am plaaning for it. Pretty mild really, hydraulic Comp Cam, 600DP, 9.5:1. If I run across a housing for a 67-8 I will let you know. They are like the one in my 69.

I noticed GA was your home. I bought a 71 Mach 1 fixer upper in May of 2006 in Marietta. Will see, money and time permitting when I accomplish that project.

Re: Cheap becomes expensive

I would hope KGordonL's 424W is making somewhere around if not over 500hp. Heck my 347 is pushing around 475hp now and he's got 77 more cubes than me.

Re: Cheap becomes expensive

Thanks Spali32, that's a great looking Cougar by the way! I've seen it in other posts, and I have really come to like those old Cougars.

However, it was never my intention to derail this thread and make it about my car. You can read all about my problems on another thread . Now that we've pretty much hashed out the big block vs. small block debate, (which was fun) hopefully skyy was able to figure out what to do. How about an update skyy. What have you decided to build?

Re: Cheap becomes expensive

Thanks. I like the look of your ride too. I started out with a shell of 68 Mustang and after all the work and time it was going to take, I decided to buy something already running and put together. Happy I got the cougar. 2.5 years later and it's finally coming out the way I wanted it.
