Broke my 392

Scat crank. Been running for 3 years now and for what aver reason it broke. What do you think Joe?

Cast or forged? Street or strip car? Max RPM range? I've been debating what crank to buy.

I don't know if forged cranks break like that. Definitely looks cast from the pics. In any case that sux big time. Not a cheap fix

Thats a SCAT crank for yah. Everyone I have seen in the dirt track field, breaks in that same area. For the Chevies, its usually at the 3/4 journal, and usually saws the thing in two. I had thought SCAT had remedied this problem but maybe not. Was this crank an older piece maybe ?

Street strip. It broke cruising down the street. Crank is cast and bought new 2003. First ran 2004 spring. Pisses me off. Took me a long time to save for that engine. I estimate it will take $3000 rotating assembly with block maching to replace it.

I had a SCAT do the same thing, but at the 3/4 rod journal and at 7000 RPM. 4" stroke 9000 series cast crank. It was not fun nor was it cheap to fix.

Found a Eagle 4340 crank to replace it. Been going now for about 2 seasons and not a single problem other than valvesprings. And I ain't easy on it at all!

I feel for ya, bro. Hard earned money gets poured into these things, then they just break for no apparent reason. It's almsot heart breaking. Actually, it feels more like your stomach is up around your neck. Not a good feeling either way.

Sorry for your loss. Makes me glad I went forged Eagle. Stud girdles top and bottom too. insurance. So far so good.
