3.8 V6's

Does anyone have experience with stroking a 3.8/ 4.2? I know that a 4.2 is a stroked 3.8 however, is it possable to get 5L out of that block?

You won't be able to get 5L out of the 3.8/4.2 block. The blocks are only good for about .030-.040" over bore so to get 300ci (4.9L) you would need a 4.33" stroker crank which isn't going to fit in the block. Even if you used a lot of Mal metal to balance the crank, the wrist pin would be almost in the top ring. You could offset grind the factory 4.2 crank and get the strok up to 3.85" or so and with a .040" over bore you would be in the 4.4L range.

Re: 3.8 V6's

I saw them/ theyre site. Whenever I look at the page with theyre strokers and kits my internet closes for some reason... I just had no idea how far you could go with this particular block.

Thank you.

Re: 3.8 V6's

I talked with them at Morana about an odd ball engine swap for my Falcon. But I lucked up on a V8 so I dropped the idea. If you're looking for V8 power from a V6 you don't need to stroke it out so much. At 5L I don't think it would last long anyway. Remember the old Thunderbird Super Coupes? A 3.8, supercharged and intercooled. About 215hp but 315fpds of torque. Those 4000 pound cars would really move. Think about a 4.2 stroker with a supercharger, intercooler and custom cam if you're just looking for power and/or a cool setup.

Re: 3.8 V6's

I was looking at building a 97? 4.2 from an F150 and the turbo is looking like a good idea, however Im not sure yet... just a nice high compression 4.2 with I have yet to research cam, heads and intake right now. Mabey some juice too

Still some time to think about it, just looking and thinking right now. Mabey I will call Morana in a few months, pick theyre brains some.

Remember the Thunderbird Super Coupe? That was a 3.8 supercharged and intercooled V6. These sites may have some good experience for you to tap. Members have helped me with my son's 2000 Mustang V6.

Re: 3.8 V6's

Right now its looking like a forged 4.2 W/ ported heads, ported dual port intake, Super Coup SC, larger fuel system/ everything eltse it needs... (not to mention building the rest of the car...) Did I mention it was a 97 3.8 auto Stang?

I go on here, however theres prehaps 3 serious guys in the V6 section and the others are 18 y/o's wondering what CAI and exhaust is best...

Re: 3.8 V6's

Which heads are you using? The latest design works really well if you plug the lower port completely and port the taller port. I do this on offroad trucks and man do they crank!
Good luck, they work well when done right.
