Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
I do have the corrector plate for my Holley to go with the Lokar cable.
We are going to try setting it up this weekend. I appreciate the info!!!

The only problem is it will shift at a higher rpm and downshift at less than WOT but will save the trans.

It's ALIVE!!!
We had to fabricate a couple of brackets and got the cable hooked up correctly this weekend. Thanks to htwheelz67 I was able to get it adjusted real close the first time and it shifted like it should for the first time ever!!!
Of the three of us who have been working on this car, none of us had ever retro-fitted an AOD before. Ofcourse, it didn't help that we started out with a bad valve body.
Now all I need to do is get the car over to the alignment shop, button up a few minor things, and then finally take it home!

Now you need to get that thing to the dyno

That is definately in the plans! I just want to drive it and get everything broken in good before heading over to the dyno.
According to the dyno shop, the AOD robs a little more power than a C4. They say that if my engine is making 500HP at the flywheel, we should see about 400 at the rear wheels (~20% loss). So I'm hoping to see 400+ RWHP when I get it over there. I'm optimistic because it feels awefully strong just running it down the road. I can also tell you that it revs a lot quicker than I expected.
I guess now I'm going to have to update my signature picture with one where my hood closes all the way and has my new hood scoop.

Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
It's finally done and sitting at the house!
This car is a blast to drive! In spite of the aggravation, I am very happy that I went with the AOD over the C4. That fourth gear makes a huge difference not only on the highway, but even just driving around town.
The car handles very well, and the 4 wheel disc brakes work great.
I know Frdnut... it hasn't been to the dyno yet, but I can tell you it is plenty fast!!! If I don't want to bake the tires, I have to wait until it gets into second to punch it! This thing takes off harder in second than most cars take off in first! Downshifting at about 50mph will also get the tires to spin. I already have a new set of rear tires waiting for me at the tire store!
Once I get a few last bugs straightened out and take care of a little transmission leak from the rear seal, I'll head for the dyno... or should I buy a new interior kit with the money...
Here's a few pics now that she's all cleaned up.

Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
Hey nice pics...Your motor has a real unique look with those valve covers and air cleaner..Car looks mean!...You might even get some decent mileage with that od trans...Believe it or not my 408 seems to get a little better mileage than my 306 did just cruising around town.

Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
i have the same tranny from the same people, and the same problem that you had ... it does not want to shift out of first
did you end up replacing the valve body and governor?

Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
Chris- I hate to hear that you are having some of the same problems I had. I ended up only replacing the valve body. I will say that they were very quick in shipping me the valve body, and were more than willing to let me speak to a technician anytime I had a question. The down side is that they only warranty the parts and not any extra labor costs. Since I am not a transmission guy, I ended up paying out a few extra bucks in labor to have that valve body installed. Now that the valve body is in and we got the cable hooked up right, the transmission works very well. It shifts solid, and as I stated earlier you will be very happy to have that 4th gear! I hope these pics help.

Thanks Frdnut!!! I am very happy with the way it came out. I do want to get over to dyno soon not only to see what kind of power she makes, but also because I believe there is still a bit more in her with the right tuning.
I'm sure the AOD gives me a lot better fuel mileage than a C4 would have, but it's still mighty thirsty!!!
The only other thing is that with the full exhaust with an X-pipe and Magnaflows, I'm a bit surprised at how loud this car still is. Does anyone know of a decent flowing muffler that is a little quieter than the Magnaflows? Are 3 chamber Flowmasters any quieter?

Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
thanks for the info! i'm sure that will help
i have flowmaster delta 50s (3 chamber) and pypes 3" universal cats (with no air tubes). the car is very tame sounding and the exhaust doesn't smell bad.
