Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
I'm a bit surprised at how loud this car still is. Does anyone know of a decent flowing muffler that is a little quieter than the
Magnaflows? Are 3 chamber Flowmasters any quieter?[/quote]
The "loud" you are referring to is the compression. Example, I pulled a 9:1 302 from my truck with the flowmasters and installed a 10.5:1 306 in its place. Same exhaust system more compression, MUCH LOUDER. I do not know of a quieter muffler off hand. Be happy.

Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
Thanks Mustang 4665. If the exhaust being a little loud is the worst of my problems, then I'm very happy!!!
I guess I'll just invest in a little sound deadening material for the trunk and interior so it won't be so loud inside the car. Only problem is, the car is a cop magnet!!!

Chris_Curl - I tried to send you a pm but it wouldn't go through.
Did you get your transmission up and going? If so, I'd like to "compare notes" on a couple of things with you and htwheelz67:
My AOD shifts good 1st to 2nd but when it goes 2nd to 3rd it immediately shifts into 4th and even slips sometimes. I typically have to keep the shifter in 3rd and then manually shift to the overdrive when I want it. When I do that, it shifts fine into all gears.
Also, I have a 4 speed B&M Megashifter. If I hold it in 1st then manually shift to 2nd, it won't shift. I have to make another shift to 3rd for it to go to 2nd. If I start out with the shifter in 2nd, it shifts on its own from 1st to 2nd.
I have adjusted the cable to where it shifts at the rpm I want it to under normal driving conditions, but I want to be able to manually hold the gears so that I can rev it up to around 6000 rpm when I get in it. If I adjust the cable any tighter it will shift at 4000 - 5000rpm even when I'm just cruising around.
I also welcome feedback from anyone else who is running an AOD.
I know I've gotten a bit off of the subject of stroker engines here and may need to move this discussion over to another thread. I'm just trying to get all of these odds-and-ends squared away so that I can get this thing to the dyno.

It will be that. Glad to hear it is going well. Keep us posted on the trannyand dyno results. Great looking car!

You know, I think I have the PM thing disabled. I very much prefer emails to PMs. You should be able to send me an email.
My behavior is like this: First gear seems fine and normal ... ie no slipping. But it doesn't want to shift out of first. I haven't taken it up to 5000 rpm yet because I am afraid I don't have the tune right and I don't want to detonate ... it is in a 1995 EFI mustang right now. I have taken it up to about 4000 or so though, and it still hadn't shifted by then. But if I get the RPMs (and speed) up in 1st and then let off the gas, then it seems to shift into something else, because it definately doesn't act like it is in first anymore. When it is like that, if I give it throttle, the RPMs go up, but the speed doesn't follow suit, so I think it is slipping, but I am afraid to experiment with it because I do not want to burn up the transmission. It is very frustrating.
So I took it to my tranny guy last monday (03/10/2008) for him to look at. I'm actually getting a little pissed because it has been there a week now and he hasn't even taken a look at it yet.

Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
Thanks again Mustang4665! I don't think I've seen a car that looks any meaner than that black fastback in your signature! What's the scoop on that one? I don't see it listed in your cars underneath the picture.
Chris_Curl, what you are describing sounds exactly like what mine was doing before I changed the valve body and got the cable hooked up right. Have you talked to the guys at Transmission Depot yet? Have you switched anything out? I understand the frustration and certainly wish you luck getting it all straightened out. Keep us posted.
I did do some tweaking to my cable adjustment over the last few days and mine has improved. It doesn't go straight into overdrive when it shifts to third anymore, and I found a pretty good balance in shift points when I'm just cruising and when I get in it. The only thing that still bothers me is the having to shift twice (1st to 2nd and then 2nd to 3rd) in order for it to shift to second when I'm shifting manually. I don't understand why I don't have better control over the shifts when I shift manually. Is this typical of AOD's or is it just my transmission?
Also, I've been meaning to ask... What kind of spark plugs are you guys running in your stroker engines? Are you running platinums or just regular plugs? I'm going to put a fresh set in before I go to the dyno and was curious what you guys have found works best.

Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
run regular autolites, I havent had one problem with my aod, when I drive normally it shifts pretty quickly and softly but when I punch it in drive from a dead stop it will shift about 4000 rpm and shifts hard.
Mine is a lentech, so it has 1-2-3 shift pattern and you hit a switch for OD.
If you really want to help out your aod you can buy the lentech valve body which makes it 1-2-3 + a switch for OD and adds quite a bit of TQ capacity to the trans. Sounds like you have lockup converters as well, mine is a non lockup with a one pc shaft, good for 800 hp+.

I'm running regular Autolites currently. I was just wondering if the platinums would really make any difference before I go drop 50 bucks on spark plugs.
Actually, I have a non-lock up converter and 1 piece shaft as well, but I have a 4 speed shifter and no switch. I have adjusted the detent cable and found a good balance in the shift points between normal driving and punching it where it shifts firmly around 4500rpm. But I want to be able to hold it in gear manually up to around 6000 rpm when I want to. With your set up using the 3 speed shifter and an od switch, do you have complete control over the shifts when shifting manually?

Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
Do some research and you will find that platinum plug are all about longevity and less maintenance. They are NOT the best HP performance choice. Save your money and get the regular Autolites.

Re: 418W build up - RPM or Vic Jr.
I can hold it in first or second up to any rpm, I've hit 7k many times also I can downshift as well basically it will not shift until I do In third it shifts by it self and even when the switch is flipped it wont go into OD untill I hit at least 55 mph. There is really no performance to be had with fancy spark plugs.
