347 revs better and a little cheaper, easier to install cause it's smaller, 351 gets you more torque, can run a clevland style main crank with bearing spacers in the block and make it rev quit happily, and of course you get more displacment which is always good

I am a professional engine builder, and I make ten 347 engines, to one 408. That says it all. The 331 and 392 are not even worth thinking about.

What Chassis???

65/66 mustang/falcon etc- 347
67-up mustang, etc - 408

Im partial to 347... lighter, rev like mad and there are tons of parts available.

Big Joe, Why do you build so many more 347's than 408's? Is it because of cost, or that the narrower 302 block will fit more applications? It seems a lot easier to find a good 302 block than a 351W block (especially early models) but I think we can all agree that between a comparably built 347 and 408, the 408 is going to make more power.

Re: 331/347 vs 392/408...which one?

Late model 302 strokers are more popular the 351's make more power. The chassis is more important. All the power in the 408 or bigger, has to get to the ground. The higher rev's of the 347 or 331 strokers work great in lighter chassis. If this vehicle is a weekend warrior as most cobra replica's are than a screaming 347 would be a good choice.

Good luck,
Randy T.
