Re: WTK: 347 Stroker, are my heads too small?

I have TFS TW heads on my 347 also. At first I thought they might be a little on the small side for my motor. After talking with my builder and reading alot of info on cross section of heads, it seems as though the TFS TW & AFR 185 are the most compared heads have an almost equal cross section. It seems that the 185's have a slight edge over the TW heads in OOTB conditon, but you can have a lot of head work done to the TW. It seems there are very few reconized people who can work an AFR head and have a huge increase. I also will be running boost later on, and I dont see why I cant make 600rwhp on pump gas with those heads and 15lbs of boost. Most of the info I got were from the cam grinder web sights ( flow tech induction - Ed Curtis & camshaft innovations - Jay Allen )

Are you racing or building a street car?

They are fine then, Don't waste your time on bigger heads, typical street car can't even come close to hooking up the kind of power your going to make even with the small heads.

Your Combo is fine, don't worry about it !!!

Re: WTK: 347 Stroker, are my heads too small?

Excellent! I looked the JE pistons up on Summit. Theya re the 232462 pistons. The piston is a dish w/2 valve reliefs. Compression distance is 1.100 in., and the piston head volume is +22.00cc. Now all I need to do is find out what PBM rods I have. I begining to think they are Chevy rods. Each rod and cap is numbered differently and don't correspond to any of PBM's numbers. Maybe they are from an older subcontractor that they don't use to make the rods anymore. I will call them tomorrow. Also I called Holley and they are closed. I need to ask them about my carb and confirm the pistons.

Re: WTK: 347 Stroker, are my heads too small?

Well what do ya know! My eyes must be going bad because those pistons didn't look like they had that kind of dish in them from the picture!
Well, at least now you know exactly what you have. According to JE, you actually have a 348 (.040 over) and are still right at 9:1 with 61cc heads. I would imagine that you have 5.4" rods. Never hurts to be sure though!
You must have called Holley at 4:01!
Anyway, as long as the rods are what you think they are and Holley says that 9:1 is okay for your blower, I'm with dfree383, I would go with what you have.

Re: WTK: 347 Stroker, are my heads too small?

I did talk to Holley and they said to reference the power valve. Attached is the pic they faxed me. So I took my Pro-Form apart and wa la, they are different. I got in touch with ProForm and they referred me to their carburetor techs. They told me to just drill a hole in the side of the base plate to the powervalve port and get my vacuum from under the blower (manifold). You have to block off the powervalve port under the new vacuum line (where it goes through to the bottom of the base plate). So, essentially you will now be getting your vacuum from the manifold and not from under the blower.
