Re: Pressure testing new motor?

You won't get and good readings for leakdown or cylinder pressure untill the motor is broke in, your wasting your time if its totaly new.

Why didn't I think of that? Oh wait, I did, somewhere around reply # 4 on this post. Obviously, we agree, so what is the point of posting this reply? Did you neglect to read past the last 6 replies, before you jumped in with both feet? I don't mind someone parroting my replies, I should probably take it as a compliment, but if it came about because you failed to start at the beginning of the thread, and really aren't sure exactly what is going on, but only responding to last reply or 2, that does an injustice to this forum, and the integrity of your reply. To reply properly under these circumstances, you should acknowledge the previous reply before repeating it. It validates the fact that you have followed the whole line of Q&A's and are up to speed. Now that I'm through bitching for the evening, thanks for the complimentary validating response.

Re: Pressure testing new motor?

You can make a home made deal to blow up each chamber . Take spark plug out one at a time and screw in a air chuck with threads same as spark plug thread . A (T) with pressure gage attached . Like a valve stem on a tire . Put air in and blow up putting air in motor .I think around 80 pounds (better check to make sure no damage , maybe less ) and see if the gage leaks down , easy enough .

Most cases however I like fe's post . Every motor we have built it goes directly on highway , first run at 7000 right out the gate . Have run a few that didnot sound right , heres what ya do then .

Pull the front wheels on trailer ramp and mat it to the floor . In about 1 minuite or when the curious crowd starts to move back as the motor tacks into 10,000 (what out motors turn) the sound you could not adinify will show itself on the ground surrounded by oil . Yup thats what we have done a few times .

UH... I said I wasn't sure what the point was, I'm positive enough about the useless results. I wish I was a guru of the motor. Thanks for clarifying what **** was FE, that would have kept me up at nights, should have put a "P" in front of it, that's what most people call me. I'll get around to you FE, give me time, it's easier if you don't piss off everybody in the free world at once. Do you really disagree with the point and principle of my statement though? I'm not quite as big a *****(although I have one), in real life as I come off on these forums. With my dry sense of humor, a lot gets lost in translation between real life and the printed word. All I'm saying is,- you should really read the previous posts before answering a thread, and if you are going to echo a previous reply, at least acknowledge the fact that you READ that reply, (which, obviously, by FE's reply,he doesn't), which, I'm sorry to say, makes you look like you arrived on the short bus, and , IMO, makes you vulnerable to the kind of statements previously delivered. My God, man, at least give your all to the useless endevour you have decieded to spend your time on in the precious few hours we are all given on this Earth to do what we will.

Re: Pressure testing new motor?

I really enjoy a dry sense of humor, but if you're going to give me something, then give it to me. Don't just talk about 'my time coming'... sheesh...

And another thing, being called a pric or a dic is peanuts! That wasnt even worth whining about.

When I see a question posted that even Dfree can answer without feeding the squirrels, I ususlly leave it go for a few day's, and then I browse lightly and put in my two cents.

That's what a discussion is about. getting an answer.

The answer was, there's NO reason to perform a leakdown or a compression test on a motor you just built. If you believe there is a reason, just STOP building motors until your confident about it, then drive it like you just raped the Pope!

Later angry man!

FE
