Oil Pump Install Question

I have a simple question for all you race engine builders? I am assembling a 408/351W race motor and installing the oil pump to block. Do I use a gasket between the pump and block? I can't remember if there was one on the motors that I have done before, it has been awhile since I put one together. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dan

Re: Oil Pump Install Question

Yes, there should be a gasket between the pump and the block--it is normally included with the pump. I have taken some old stuff apart and did not find one. The possibility of a leak is too great without one for my tastes.

Whatever you do, do not use silicone as a replacement.

Re: Oil Pump Install Question

I recommend a thin paper gasket. You WILL find it in a "Full Set"...

Re: Oil Pump Install Question

Thank you guys for the responses, I just didn't remember there being one between the pump and block on tear down. Is there a chance of the gasket blowing which would be worse than a leak.

Thanks
Dan
