Block Filler????

Looking at using block filler on my 71' 351C in my Torino. I should get it back from the machiner next week and have heard some pros and cons to filling the block. I went .030 over on the block and running KB flat tops with stock rods with 9:5 compression for NOS.

Other notables...
Weiand Intake
Comp High Energy Cam
Heads have been refeshed with mild porting
650 Holley DP
125 shot in the arm

This won't be strictly race, but I don't want to compromise my cooling capabilities filling the block. I actually have heard more pros based on overall added strenght and dampening.

Please advise!

Re: Block Filler????

you are looking at doing a HALF fill then if your going to drive it at all. they stabilize the cyl wall from flexing out in the middle, and the coolant that stays in the block is at the top of the cyls, so they still cool ok. you may have to go with a bigger rad just for capacity if not the core, but you'd be surprised how manageable it is.

i don't know much about ford motors-someone should chime in with advice to whether you even need to be doing this at your power level. do you have plans to beat on the motor with more power-that might help you decide

Save your money.. You don't need block filler. We've ran a .030 13:1 TRW Slug motor on the street for 10 years probably 30k miles. Ran it a 7500 rpm all the time. Still got the block with no issues.
If you are taking it to .060 then I would fill the lower section of the block. Your fine at .030 with no filler.

Re: Block Filler????

When using filler, you should fill the block BEFORE sending it out for machining. As the filler sets and hardens, it can actually slightly change the roundness of the cylinders. If you put filler in after boring and honing you are asking for ring seal problems.

Also, I agree with the other guys, its not needed in your application.

Re: Block Filler????

Chico is 100% correct. DO NOT fill your block after its been machined.
