The PCV system is supposed to pull nasty crankcase gases through the intake via vacuum and "reburn" it...for emmisions pusrposes as well.
Vented, as you have it, works perfectly fine. You just might get some residue seeping through your filters and onto the valve covers, but it shouldn't be so much so that it becomes a fire hazard. An elevated fill tube might help with this, and in more extreme cases of it some people use an oil/air seperator...either vented or tied into the PCV system (I'm not talking abuot the dinky setups for air compressors either).
