CPR, FPA, Accufab Headers 66 Mustang 351W
I contacted CPR & FPA for headers for a 66 Mustang - 351W / 408W, AFR 205's & top loader 4 -speed with z-bar. Neither of the two will make headers for this application.
Besides Accufab, anyone else know of a header that will fit nicely with AFR 205's?
The Hooker Super Comps 6208's... I am concerned about the flanges crowding the exhaust ports.
P.S. - CPR and FPA were courteous and prompt in replies.

Re: CPR, FPA, Accufab Headers 66 Mustang 351W
CPR makes the headers for Accufab, so they are the same thing.
I believe Dennis has Accufab headers on his 351W mustang with AFR 205 heads and a 4-speed with the Z-bar linkage.
Maybe he'll chime in.
Good Luck!

This is indeed my combination. I know that you really didn't request info on the Accufab's, but I'll through some out there anyways because I don't think that you will find another large tube header that fits this combination.
Because they have a 2" bolt pattern, they do infringe on the port a little. I ground much of the weld off the inside of the tubes/flange prior to installation. During the winter build I am going to redrill as many of the holes in the header flange to the 205's 3" location as I can and remove the excess pinch points that protrude into the ports.
Perhaps Accufab can build them with the 3" flanges? That would solve your problem.
I will say that the headers fit snug to the motor. Lots of ground clearance. With 66' motor mounts, your tubes shouldn't contact the shock towers excessively. Wish the driver's side header didn't point toward the passenger's side so much, but some creative work with some 3" mandrel bent pipes has solved that problem. Don't expect to install the Accufabs without some creative tinkering.
Installing the Z bar should be a condemned act of torture, but once installed it works just fine. I install both of them from under the car. I use both the 65' type bar that has the clutch adjustment just above the steering box. I also use the 66' style adjuster that contacts the clutch fork. That allowed me to jockey the z bar arms to the best position.
Overall, I am pleased with my Accufabs, although they are not plug and play. If you find a better 1 3/4" header that will work with the Z-bar and raised port heads, certainly let us know.

I can save you a lot of work and trouble.. It will NOT make any differance. All the flow comes right down the CENTER of the port, so if a little wild or pipe sticks into the gasket area, when you go yo all the trouble to fix it, IT WONT MAKE ANY MORE HP at all. I have tested this stuff many times, there is little or NO HP there

FPA courteous? S.J. must be getting soft in his old age or you were waving lots of money at him.

Good to hear that, I've known him 35 years.
I am one of those "never again" customers. I have nothing good to say so I will say nothing at all.

Re: CPR, FPA, Accufab Headers 66 Mustang 351W
I believe frdnut uses the Hooker #6208 units. They are full length 1-3/4" headers, and I think they are supposed to work with a 4-speed. They are designed for installing 351W's in 65-70 mustangs.
The AFR 205 exhaust ports are only raised 1/8" I believe. It shouldn't be a big deal... especially on a 67-68.
Sometimes, the shock towers sag inwards on these cars over the years. I took a port-a-power, wedged it between the towers, and made a little extra room. The 65-66 mustangs are supposed to be 33-1/2" between the shocks.
Good Luck!

Re: CPR, FPA, Accufab Headers 66 Mustang 351W
Hgufrin:
I have a set of Hedman long tubes for 302-351 into a 65-70 Mustang. I bought em before ordering the AFR's, i should say try to order them as the Canadian Distributer that AFR sent me to, told me it would be a 4 month wait!
So, i ordered a diff, head but, supposidly, they fit the AFR's, you might want to check with them to be sure
I;m not running them because of a rack & pinion upgrade that would mean i;d have to cut at least 3-4 tubes to make em fit.
I used them on the dyno to break in the motor & they went back into the box.
If you can confirm they will work with AFR's & want em, let me know
