New Generation \'Birds....

Read recently where the latest generation T-bird won a JD Power award for entry level luxury cars. Too bad they've decided to kill em off. Question is, anybody on the board actually have one? The wife is really sweet on the 2002 Thunderbird Blue model and the prices have come down enough to actually afford one now....

I looked the over heavily before job loss and you need to do some research on the motors. They had some changes as the model got newer. Otherwise they are pretty much the same with trim differences inside.
Sorry I don't know anybody who bought one, but like you say the prices were dropping on the early ones.

Thanks. Remember what kind of motor issues? I know they had several TSB's and a couple of recalls, of which I mainly recall suspension crap, maybe a couple of electrical bugaboos...BTW, this is what mama wants:

We considered a Thunderatti at one time... I, for one, was not impressed with it's performance. My boss' wife loves hers

I sat in one at the dealership once.
I wasn't impressed. The seats were hard as a rock and my head was up against the ceiling even with it tilted slightly.

Maily lack of power. You can always search on "2002 Thunderbird Problems" and usually come up with something from owners.

I like them too but the little V8 which I think it shares with other FOMOCO including the Jag. is just not a hi-po piece. The Jag uses a supercharged version but converting would be tough, I'll bet. To bad some one like Kenne Bell doesn't make anything for them.

Check out www.thunderbirdnest.com ... mostly 02 - 05 owners there. You should be able to get all the info you need.

Just kind of trolling here when I saw this old post.

Can't agree with the lack of power comment. My 03 TBird (and my 04 Lincoln LS 8 Sport) are pretty quick stock cars. 0-60 in about 6-6.5 seconds. Much quicker than my 94 TBird LX 4.6, but I guess that's to be expected.

Mine's pretty rare, black with saddle interior.

Yeah, sales and the car died, along with the LS and Merc Marauder, but except for some hardtop rattles and a "looser" feel when compared to my LS, not a bad car to go cruising in, especially on a warm night or sunny day.

My other cars: 1958 TBird hardtop and 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL (clone) convertible.

The 94 TBird (black/tan interior, factory spoiler, very clesn) will be up for sale next spring when I decide to retire. The 58's for sale right now (62,000 original miles, 2nd owner).
