Disc brake conversion on a 64?

What would be a good donor car for me to put front disc on my 64 bird? What all would I need to take off the donor? Can I buy some of these parts from the parts store? Any info would be appreciated

probably a 70's bird....take all u can get...spindles, calipers, hoses, steel lines(u may need the fittings off of the donor car) stay away from linc stuff, the got the 5X5[img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_ghey.gif[/img] lug pattern

70 all the way up to 79? Pretty much a direct bolt on?

that would make it the same chassi as the 64 galaxie?

Whoa, not so fast. Remember, 70-76 t-birds were on the same chassis as the Lincolns and consequently had the same bolt patterned hubs. Stay with the 77-79 t-birds, cougars, and Ltd II's and you'll be fine.

This one is easy. Sorta...

Find a '66 T-Bird in the boneyard. A '66-'69 Lincoln Continental might work, too -- they had similar cowls, front suspensions, etc.

Unbolt everything that has to do with the brakes. Bolt it to your car. Presto!

I'm sure the '66 T-bird had K-H discs standard. They were 11.875" diameter, about an inch and a quarter thick if memory serves, which is big-ass in any book. They were used to good effect in TransAm racing Mustangs and NASCAR Road Racers.

They are the 4-piston style, and getting a little harder to find parts for these days, relative to the later single piston calipers used a few years after... they tend to jam pistons, and are susceptible to corrosion.

Not sure about big car knuckles, bearings, etc... the chassis was different than the Galaxie, I know that . The T-Bird was a unibody, the Galaxie, body-on-frame.

You might want to look over at the Lincoln Continental Owner's Club boards, they are very active tinker-ers with their cars, and would know if and how the parts might interchange.

1964-66 share the same body design for the thunderbird. 1966 is the first year for disc brakes on this model. just find a 1966 thunderbird and dont forget the preportioning valve. posssibly the master cylinder also.

I have access to '79 spindles from T-bird and am wanting to add the "granada swap" to my '65 Fairlane.
Does anyone know if the ball joint and tierod ends are the same? I know the dimensions are the same but I get mixed info from here.
How about a comprehensive list of spindle interchangability amoung the different years?
That would be great as I have access to several different model and brand cars from a local salvage yard.
