67-69 question

I currently am in highschool, and am restoring a 66 Mustang coupe, but I do not want to have to drive it everyday, and a car with alittle more room for.......... transporting friends.... would be great. My dad has an old 67 Tbird 4door 390, but its been sitting since '88, because he only got it for the motor, and has since rusted beyond logical use for anything save a parts car. We have a friend who owns a 64, but its too nice for me to want to take it off his hands. Now my question is, if I get a 67-69 Tbird(My favorite bodystyle) will a later model Mustang 5.0 or maybe a 351W fit in? I know it should, since they came with 390s and such, but I want to make sure.

67-69 question

Since the '67-'71 chassis is a shortened version of the Galaxie, I suppose you could get 302-351 motor mounts for one of those and do it, question is, why? Those are extremely heavy cars,
they need torque to move. Only a big block cuts it IMHO

You would also need to replace the tranny and it would be one heavy load at almost 5000 lbs. for a 302.

67-69 question

I'd go with the 351, as already mentioned you'll need a small block tranny(or maybe just a small block bellhousing if it has the FMX trans).

My build on a driver '67-'69 Bird would be 351/393/408, with a good set of heads and a AOD trans(or C4 if you ain't worried about mpg). Add a mild cam, 2400-2800 stall and 3.50 gear, even the 351 would slaughter any stock 390 and likely give a stock 429 a hard run.

Damn I just notice this was orig posted way back in July..
