1990 thunderbird ignition switch

the ignition switch on my car has gone for a crap, now in order to keep the car running i have to hold the key in the on position, (same goes in order to use the stereo, wipers and windows) and this is a real pain in the ass to drive with.

Anyone know of a good way to get the plastic wrap around cover off of the steering column?

thanks.,
Ryan

Without seeing it, I would suspect if you look under the column there is a couple of screws holding the plastic to the column?

Yes, "Admin" is right. Use a Phillips screwdriver to get the screws out from underneath the steering column. Also you will need a torx bit to get the ignition switch off. The torx bit needs to be the kind with a hole in the center.

I used a flat blade screwdriver to take my torx screw off. Mess up the face of the torx screw, but it worked.

Those screws suck.Luckily,Autozone had the right bit for it for like $2.00,and I replaced the screws with something a little more common.
