Does anyone know what type of tranny came in a 1962 t-bird?

How is a cruisomatic compared to a c-6 transmission...which one is better and why ?

All 61-65 T-birds came with COM transmissions. The C-6 is later version Ford transmission that first came in 66 T-birds with 428 motors. C-6's can be used in 62 T-birds with a re-worked linkage.

C6 trans were also put in 1966 thunderbirds with 390's. The 66 models used the cruise-a-matic shift pattern, so looking at the gear selector wont help. C6 trans used an all aluminum case. Cruise-a-matic had a cast iron main body. Ford fairlane GTA had what was called the sport shift valve body. This pattern was used from 67 on up. That is why you can't get a shift kit for a 1966 C6 !
The cruise-a-matic was used in the 62 thunderbird. This tranny can't handle any dirt. Keep it serviced frequently or it will develop shifting problems.

originally came with 390 4v C6 automatic and 3.0 open rear

Now Has
390 V6 (tri power from a 62 thunderbird) + mods
T45 5 speed from 2000 cobra
4:11 richmond gears Posi
digital gauges and speedo ( to calibrate speedo easily)

Umm.. What's involved in reworking the linkage to make a C-6 Tranny fit up to a 62 T-Bird?
