HELP 351 or 390 ....c-6 or cruiseomatic rebuild?

I have a 351windsor w/a c-6 transmission which i would like to drop into a 1962 ford thunderbird.

Does anyone know if this can be done?
Does anyone know if the c-6 is to big for the cruisomatic that came in with the t-bird? or will it fit?
Can i use anyother type of engine mount for this??? if so what year or mount?

does anyone carry any type of mounts for that type of swap? Some say there are adapter kits for the cross member and engine mounts. Others say you have to weld…. Got any advice?

iam new to all of this and would like some advice......

also..my 351w and tranny are completely rebuilt.

should i rebuild the 390 and keep the c-6???
or should i rebuild the transmission (cruiseomatic)
what tranny would be better a c-6 or the cruiseomatic??

Can't be that hard.

You would have to rig the engine mounts, radiator, fan and accessory drives, plus any power stuff that runs from the motor... not impossible, just time consuming.

IMO, a better bet is just to rebuild the 390 that came with it.

If you're bucks up, just build the 390 with the Edelbrock kit. Heads, intake carb cam etc, with a good exhaust system, it will really wake up. Should run fine on regular gas, too.

If you're watching the bucks, a good stock rebuild on the 390, with mild head porting and a good "RV" type cam will give you satisfactory results ( a little less spectacular.) It's got torque up the wazoo, and even a little warmup will make a big difference.

IMHO, if you can get an adapter from Wilcap to put an AOD behind the FE instead of the creaky old Cruiseomatic, so much the better. A C-6 can sometimes be a tight fit... and having the od in top gear will save a lot of gas. The Mustang guys have done a lot with this trans. You could commit a huge sacrelige and use a GM 700R4 which is a pretty good trans, too, just more work.

C6 is a stable trans and very strong. The cruise-a-matic has trouble with any dirt. will develop shifting issues if not maintained well. If you want to keep the cruise-a-matic shift pattern than get on out of a 1966 thunderbird. This was the first year the c6 came out. this year only used the crusie-a-matic shift pattern. The C6 will require a different trans mount. Or just do this !
