1989 SC-popped head gaskets-question

Two years ago my sc blew a head gasket. The time has come for me to fix this thing. The problem is that I am not sure I want to deal with the 3.8 any longer (very hard to work on). My question is could a 302/351w drop in its place and mate up with the AOD auto that it has. The trans was rebuilt not too long ago so I would like to keep it. I am just not sure of flexplate issues etc. Any input would be great-thanks!

Either one will work with the propper converter. Since you would need a V8 computer and harness, exhaust manifolds, V8 braclets for accesorys, you would beter off having a wrecked V8 doner ca r to get every thing from. This is a slow process, but if your SC is in great condition, worth while. If not, may be better findind a nice 91-83 V8 Bird, and swapping over your seats, and any other parts to it, and having a spare AOD.

I started out with a 93 V8 Bird, and did a carbed 393.

Almost all SC's after 70K (just a matter of time) blow HG's. Usually it is the driver's side due to the 90* turn in the cat (excessive back pressure) redo the exhaust to prevent it from blowing again.

ARP head studs, and really good head gaskets?
I don't know, personally I like the blower whine.
