1996 Ford Thunderbird Ignition Switch

Ok so 2 days ago i was driving into a gas station parked, took key out went back in and tryed to start it up but the switch just kept on going, not stopping to start the car. It turned on all the electric but didn't start the car. I went in and took out the switch but in the process my panic alarm went off and now i can't get the switch to turn back into the off position. I disconnected the battery cable so the battery won't die. So now I am wondering what could cause my switch to not stop and ignite the car to start? And what do I have to do in order to make my car not lock up because of the panic alarm? Please help. I have a date saturday lol

I have never had any dealings with the ignition switch, but always willing to help a fellow Bird owner. Whats her address, and what time should I pick her up?
