SUPERCOUPE\'S 1990 AND 1994 transmissions

I have two Tbird supercoupes, the 1990 one has a bad transmission, Wil not move the car at all. The 1994 has been hit on the pass. side (door quaterpanel) ans has axle damage. My question is, Can the transmissions be switched from one car to the other car, and I've had people tell me that they are not interchangeable, because of the kick down rod setup, I've been told, the 90 model has a rod, and the 94 model has a cable. Please help with confusion, Thanks Steve

The 90 used an AOD and the 94/95 used an electronically controlled 4R70W. To use the 4R70W, you would need to either swap to a 94/95 EEC with the transmission functions or use a Baumanator transmission controller.

The above is correct. The Tbird/Cougar from 89-93 have completly different engine, transmission and computer systems than the 94-97.

To be a little more specific. The 89 through 95 Supercoupes used the EEC-IV and in 94 they added the auto trans functions.

The 89 through 93 LX models used the EEC-IV and in 94 went to the EEC-V with ODBC-2. 94 was also the first year for the 4.6 SOHC engine.

One of the many reasons the SC was killed off for 96 was lack of EPA and other Gov certification and that required OBDC-2 starting in 96.
