55 Bird Speedo problem ???

Hay Guys,
I don't look forward to pulling the seat and trying to squeeze my 2XL top end under the dash, again. The speedometer in my '55 Bird indicates 30 MPH sitting in the garage, and I can cruise at 95 MPH without fear of a summons. The odometer seams to be ticking off at a peculiar rate as well. I'll pull the speedo gage cluster so I can tinker around with it on a bench but I have little watch repair experience so I'm afraid I'll fix it and get it down to O MPH all the time. Anyone ever encounter this or have any suggestions ?
Thanks, Steve
