Either a ground issue or the power going into the lights there is passing through a rheostat or voltage reducer...

This may sound stupid , but did ya try twisting the light switch ( counter-clockwise ) ? Thats the instrument lighting dimmer . Or maybe it just needs a couple new bulbs .

Dim dash lights

I've noticed the dash lights in my 72 are somewhat dim compared to most the newer cars. Back in the 90's I had a 74 that I took all the green filters out for the dash lights. Helped out a bit even if it seems drastic.

Isn't there a voltage regulator on some of these old beasts? Seems to me I recall seeing one of these on a parts catalog. Could a guy check the voltage at any of the bulb sockets?

And lets not forget the years of dust that collects on the bulbs and inside the cluster.

Bulbs darken as they age. If your bulbs are the common 3 watt #194 that Ford used you can replace them with 5 watt #2825. Makes a big difference.

Like he said. My 60 Falcon had that issue and when I went to pull them the insulation crumbled off the wires. 40 years of heat under the dash will do that
