68 Torino wheel back spacing...........?

How much back spacing is needed to fit the widest tires on the rear of a 68 torino with allowing proper clearances? thanks Fred.

The 68-69 Torinos dont give you much room for wide tires.
I have Weld Racing 15x8 on the rear, and I can only go with a 10.5 inch wide tire (actual tread width is around 9.6 inches....M/T Sportsman Pro's).
The backspacing on the rims is 4.5" inch.
I put on a set of M/T Sportsman Pro 12.5" inch tires, and they rub on the leaf springs.....I notched my springs for clearence, and they like to "grab" ahold of the wheel lip moulding sometimes. I gotta keep my eye on that!!

Ditto on the 4.5" backspacing.
I have 15x8's with 295-50's and they are tight!
They do rub the springs on corners, very lightly though.

Thanks for the responses. Iam planning on getting my dad a new set of rims for the rear of his 68, he has keystone 14in rims which doesnt leave much option open for taller tire plus he is putting in 3.89 gears so taller tire will be needed for the highway. Thanks Fred.

I got my new wheels with the help of Torino420. I'm running a 17x9 wheel with a 5" BS with a 275/40 in the rear. I did have to roll the fenders though. I need to get pics with the new wheels.[img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_redface.gif[/img]
