1970 Torino wheel and tire size

i have a 1970 torino convertible. i was thinking about going to 16 or 17 inch rims - it has a global west kit in front - anyone have any comments (good or bad) on going to a larger diameter rim?

I've got 16" 60 series tires on my 67 Fairlane and 17" 45 and 40 series tires on my 69 Torino. The 16" 60 series tires ride very smooth in comparison to the 17 inch witht he small sidewalls. If you are looking at suspension/handling upgrades then you'll be happy with the gains from the low profile tires despite the harsher ride.

I recently had some custom steele wheels made for my 70 torino gt, I wanted the largest tire/wheel combo I could fit under the car, and keep steel wheels... 15x8 with 5inch offset... and Im running 275/60 mickey thompson street radials... you could possibly fit 295's but it may rub... not sure...

For what it's worth.. Here's what fit my '70 Fairlane perfectly.

Front:
17x8 (4.5" bs) with a 255/40/17 Nitto 555 tire
Back:
17x9 (5" bs) with a 285/40/17 tire

Fit perfectly with a fingers width between the quarter lip and the tire. I could have gone 295 in the rear by rolling the lip or adjusting the BS to push the wheel inboard (had a good 1.5" clearance on the inside).

The 255's up front have tons of room and still maintains great turning radius.
