traction with torinos

Hello everyone, I'm new here to the forum. I have a 73 torino sport with a 351c 2 bolt, with 71 4v cc heads, c4 tranny w/ a 3500 redneck tc, 9" trak-lok with 3.5 gears. I have no traction. People say 4V heads have no low end, I smoke them all the way through first into second. I need to get some traction. I know a big problem is my tires and wheels. I have 245/70R24 in the rear. My plan is to get some 15s with more bite, but even so, lets say I run some et streets, chassis & suspension mods need to be made. I plan on switching to lower gears this winter, I'm thinking 4.11 or 4.56.
I'm on a few other forums and asked the same question, and have been told getting traction with my torino is next to impossible. But I don't buy it. Any help/advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The 24" style tires and rims don't work well in dragracing. 15" and some good tires will make a difference. You still have to watch your rpms off the line so as not to over load them at the start.

I'm sorry, I meant 245/70R14s in the rear.

Could be the rear suspension is overloaded and just can't handle the torque. How old is your suspension?

There has been an on going discussion concerning some traction bars for the torino 4 link setup, I seriously can't recall who the heck made them, but I believe they were Southside machie pieces?
Someone, can't remember the message board, but they had posted the prints on I think the MSN torino club {Sorry, just don't remember, it's been 4-6 months}
I am curious is anyone else has transplanted the panhard bard off a full size 72-78 car onto a Torino? I would assume that might help some.
I boxed the lowers on mine, with a 3/16" plate, and for measure I put 3 ribs inside the arms.
I also boxed my lower front control arms aswell to stiffen them up.
A simple thing I recall, is unhooking the front sway bar to help with wieght transfer, but on a 3,800-4,000 pound car.

Traction shouldn't really be an issue. A guy at 460ford.com runs 11.7 with a stock suspension, poly bushings, and ET drags.

It may look stock, but it isn't. Lots of little tricks and parts that look stock but make a big difference. That's like saying, Lance Armstrong looks like just another biker rider!

So far it has run 11.59@116 in a 4000+ pound Starsky and Hutch Torino, has also run as fast as 116.89. 1.69 60' times with a 3.56 gear and 28" tall drag radials.
No tuning yet beyond a bigger acc pump squirter to fix a bog..

Runs on pump 93, will idle with a stock Ford Converter, but it doesn't like it, I'm currently running a 3500 stall, much happier..

and.

""
No wheelspin on the 11.59 run, the DR's hook pretty well, no wheelie with the 3.56 gears and ~4000+ pounds to deal with,"""
