you can put a 460 on a C4 with a 351M/400 bell. I just took a 460 out of my 64 with a C5 on it

there is to bolt pattern C-4s. SBF=289,302, 351W, 351C. A BBF that was put behind a few 351Ms that one fits 351M, 400M, 429, 460. Now there is 2 different C-4 main trans bodies. Pan fill and case fill. Case goes right into the right front corner of the trans and the pan fill screws into the right side of the pan. They have different bellhousing, pump botl patterns, 5 and 7 bolts. Pan fill will fit a BBF and the case fill doen't have a bellhousing for the BBF. Mainly because the pan fill is a little stronger casing. Now there is no C-4 bellhousing that fit the FE. C-6 has 2 bellhousings, BBF, 351M, 400M, 429, 460 and the SBF, 289, 302, 351W, 351C. Tomorrow we'll take flexplates so we all can be confused.

The bellhousing bolt pattern itself is the same. The tailshaft housing length can be different thou. Nothing was really made standard so that one size fits all. Even in the car models there is tailshaft differences. The front is the same, the back might not be. Theye even have 4x4 versions out there to hook up to a transfer case.
