Questions about 1972 n code Ranchero bracket race build-up

Hi,

I have a 1972 ford ranchero n-code. It currently has a strong 1969 lincoln 460 engine a c-6 tranny and a 9 inch rear(don't think it has a posi). It is staight, no real rust and drives good. It could use paint general clean-up but overall very solid. Here are my questions?

1. How much does this car weigh?
2. What will it take to get this car into the low 13's or better in the 1/4?

3. How about traction on rancheros?

Thanks
Brant

that 365 horse 460 has 500 ft. lbs. of torque at 2,800 rpm's, that's awesome! But, since your main power range is 2,500 to about 5,000 rpm, a better intake and cam to wake it up a little more and perhaps open up the power range a little and increase your top end... I don't race, so I can't answer your question but, it might already be close to the 13's as it sits if you have any traction...

I don't know about the weight either... 2,900 to 3,400 is my guess.

The weight is closer to 4200lbs, you'll need a decent gear, like 3.50-4.10 to accelerate it good.
A Traction-Lock is a must!! ("Posi" is a Chevy name for the same device).
A modern cam and intake with an 850 CFM carb and some headwork with headers and free flowing exhaust system will help it big time.
A few other items will help as well, like a strong electronic ignition system....Ford Duraspark, MSD, Crane, Jacobs, etc. and a slightly bigger stall speen torque convertor and a shift kit in the trans valvbody.

Read the listing on this one and it should give you a good idea of what to expect.

You can also contact the owner at www.Ranchero.US under the name MCFord. I have a '72 Ranchero GT 351 Cobra Jet 4 speed and I Had to get it weighed for the DMV. It came in at 3,860. With a 460 and a C-6 you are looking at over 4000 Lbs.
