I'm painted too now!

The cars been painted for a couple of months now, and I'm finally getting pictures up.

The paint and bodywork was actually done by Maaco, but not your average Maaco. My friend owns a franchise shop in Sacramento and has put hundreds of thousands of dollars into new equipment, and is now specializing in restorations. The great thing is that its still a franchise shop so hes able to keep costs down. I estimate I paid about half of what I would have If I'd taken it to another 'specialty' shop. (It also didnt hurt that I'm frinds with the guy who did the work).

The paint was actually a mistake as the car was originally a dark metallic green (bullit-like, referred to as british racing green). The paint now is a much more grey, with a light green/ blueish tint. It's really growing on me, and I think the car looks great.

News: I'm currently in San Diego, done with my first leg of my trip back to school in Tucson (UA baby!!!). The car ran great and boy I'm sure glad I swapped 2.79's back in. I was in the fast lane nearly the whole time and even managed to knock down 14 mpg!

Update: Just made it to Tucson, took me about 6 hours to go 420 miles. Speeds ranged from 65-90, and the car got just over 14mpg. Thanks for the comments guys!

edit: Forgot to mention that we've owned the car since 1968. My dad bought it new while he was a student at Berkeley, and then the car visited both coasts and japan due to his navy service. It has about 450,000 thousand miles on it, and I just added 800 more

I liked your car until I read your last edit -- now I love it! Cars are meant to be driven. Cool stuff.

Exactly! My dad also has a 1955 Chevy Bel air convertible (that his dad, my grandad, bought new) which has about 500,000 miles on it. Its really a sweetheart with a blueflame six (third rebuilt motor) and three on the tree (on its first rebuild). It was my dads first car (bought it off his parents) and my dad, my brother, and I all learned to drive stick on it. Also in the 'fleet' is a 1941 Packard 180 that has over 200,000 miles on it. We love to drive all of them at least weekly, and I drive the Montego daily.
