will 1972 front sheet metal go on a 76\' Elite?

I have a 76' Elite but always liked the hood and grill of a 72 torino. Would the fenders hood and grill, etc swap onto my 76? I know it sounds crazy but would it work?

you would need the whole from clip but from 72 to 73 and onward there was alot of work done upfront for the 5 MPH bumpers and makes it a pain to swap apparently. So yes it will swap but it will just take some work.

Thanks for answering. The frames should be the same, right? I know there may be alot of redrilling for mounting the 72 sheet metal. I just hope the 72 fenders mount flush up to the 76 doors. The elite has the same 73-76 torino doors but different sheet metal in the front.

There is an article in the FM archives on putting a 72 front end on a 73. I don't remember the details, but it is a significant amount of work. I believe the frame was redesigned to accommodate the 5mph bumpers. Find the article.

Thanks, That was helpful. In that article they said the had to shave 4" off the 73's front "stub". Is that part of the frame?
On a side note, would I be better off swapping a 73-76 torino front clip. (your '73 looks great BTW, nice color!)
I like everything about my 76 except for the formal-looking grill and there is a dent in the hood anyways from a fallen tree branch.

it wouldnt look right as the body lines are different. the elite shares the same body panels as the 74-76 cougar and montego. yes, the sub is part of the frame. major surgery.

I think your right. After looking a lot of photos, even the doors on the elites are different, meaning the fenders won't meet flush. I can't think of one body part the elite shares with a gran torino, except the windshield and maybey the trunk lid. Oh well, one day when I hit the lottery, I'll just buy a 72!

I had an Elite, and I was going to put a 76 Torino nose.

Don't bother, you'll end up hacking into half the doors to get it to look right.

I was wondering that and it's true the doors are different. I've come down the realization that I will have to learn to like what I've got, Unless I put a 74-76 cougar hood and nose on. Those year cougars look pretty bad-ass from all angles with a set of ss cragars !
