Re: Took the first trip around town with the RRS kit

Got it back on the road today and took a couple pictures. Waiting for it to cool down and I'll go back to work on installing the CD box and new guages.

Nice stance, what are your front wheel dimensions. I have 16 x 8 w 4" backspace and have bad rubbing issues, I had to re-raise mine. But front wheel tucks as yours does. Do you have front rubbing issues?

Re: Took the first trip around town with the RRS kit

great to see it back on the road again . I did a coil over on my Torino last year love it its a different one that FE did , anyways I also did a 3g alternator upgrade and the guy that builds the front end kit also does alot of wiring harnesses for older mustangs to convert them to e.f.i. he had a harness to just plug in the 3g , also while I was there he had a new part for the coil over to take some of the harshness of it being all solid bolt it , gave me them to give him some input and all I can say is its a world of difference much quieter not nearly as much road noise . Sorry for the long winded approach and not trying to hi-jack your thread .

Re: Took the first trip around town with the RRS kit

245 45 17 front tires with 17x8" wheels with 4.5" backspacing. It is the backspacing that is killing you. On my 67 Fairlane I run a 16x8" wheel all around with 4.5" backspacing and 60 series tires. No rubbing there either. Out back I run 5.5 oor 5.75" backspacing (I can't remember but Torino 420 will since I measured it for him) on a 17x9.5" wheel with a 285 40 17 tire and no rubbing issues.

Re: Took the first trip around town with the RRS kit

Torino420 I'm off to the alignment shop Wed so I'll have some real feedback on the kit Wed or Thurs night.

Valleydude I bought a 3G but I went with a PA harness and cable. We will have to compare notes after I install it.

This weekend I installed a complete new ignition. MSD ready to run dist, MSD Digital 6 box and 8.5mm wires. I set the dist up with 18 deg mechanical, 18 deg initial timing all in by 2700. The thing is running great. I did a bunch of interior work; installing a new set of greenline guages, painting my lower dash, cleaning up the wiring mess the guy before me created. Pretty funny I'm doing all this work and then just going to tear it apart again. Oh well that's the point of building an old car .... building the old car.

Yep...5.5" backspacing out back. My 15x8's with 4.5" backspacing were damn near dead center in the wheelwell. So for a 17x9.5" wheel to match that, it would of been 5.25" backspacing. But since I will be adding rear disk soon, that will push the wheel out just a tad so I figured the 5.5" would be okay. There is only like ~1/2" of clearance between the inner tire and leaf spring but it still doesn't rub.

Yea I forgot that Disc piece. I'm running discs on the rear of mine so at the time of purchase that was a concern.

Re: Took the first trip around town with the RRS kit

I went with Ron Morris's cause he did me right on the coil over but its a simple upgrade you do . If you have the plug for the alternator all you have to do is loop the F and I wires off the old voltage regulator , that keeps your alt light working in the dash gauges then find the 12 volt key on wire in the 3 wire plug from the old harness next to the starter solenoid run that wire to the 12 volt sensing wire to the new alt, add a heavy 12 gauge wire to the battery and your set . Rons harness was a little pricey at 90.00 but then again its nice and clean well fused so no concerns of burning up the car. Also Torino420 I live in Salida which is a blur north of Modesto where abouts are you ?
