'73 rag joint...help!!!

I've got a '73 Montego, the rag joint took a dump. So, I swung in to the autoparts store and got one, I got home and disassembled it...which is not fun...and I got it prepared to put the new coupler on. Well, long story short, it doesn't work, the safety pins are not the right size, the holes are too small. Arghhhhhhh, WTF???? Has anybody done this before? Thanks.

Re: '73 rag joint...help!!!

Are the safety pins too large on both sides or just one? I've seen rag joints and tried to assemble them backwards with the same results you are getting...

Is one of the pins fatter than the other?

Yeah...the threads of the safety pin aren't long enough.

Re: '73 rag joint...help!!!

Is that the only rag joint they offer for your car?

Or was it a "HELP" rotisseri section pick that lists a hundred diffrent applications for Ford and Chebby and Dodge Etc... and you just pick the one with your make on it?

If you got any pics put them up and maybe we'll see something you can't... Not literally but figuratively...

Re: '73 rag joint...help!!!

I got a Lares rag joint (PN: 202 for a Ford gear, $30 at Advance) and I installed it, probably tighter now than it has ever been...so I'm happy.
