Re: OH Rust

Always assume thaty anything with a vinyl top is rusted out!! Thats often the case, even with supposedly "rust-free" Calif. cars.

Re: OH Rust

A lot of sanding and some fibreglass hair resin and you should be fine. I had a hole the size of a silver dollar in the roof of my ranchero and took care of it no problem, only way to tell it's there is remove the liner or do the magnet check.

Hey Jon, speaking of which, what did end up happening to that car?
I remember talking with Steve about that thing a while back, of course it's been a bit since all those cars were drug from that chicken coop place!

Anyways, worse case, I have a roof off a 1973 GT montego fastback, and it's a non-vinal roof.

I did the roofskin on my fastback, as, {AHEM} I had a nice california car aswell that had a trashed vinal roof {proding Jon and laughing}.
I still get a chuckle at what my fastback was originally...

Re: OH Rust

I pulled the inside panels off to pull the outside trim off, so I can fix the top. But inside the lower wheel wells there is alot of dirt and dust, some surface rust. I don't know how to reach all off it, I'll sand off as much as I can. I'll post pics of it, but then I'll need a product that can seal what I can't reach. Any ideas?

Re: OH Rust

any ideas, I'm allready sealing the holes that the vunyl top had, I'm removing all the trim and sealing the holes. I'm removing the 2 little side windows to weld them shut. Back window is coming out to remove the hooks that the window trim attached to. Also so I can clean up the crap that the top left. It took 30 yrs to get the surface rust, but I don't want it to continue to rust. So since the car is going to be pretty much sealed so no more little leaks. So what do I do? Clean off the rust I can reach, and hit it with some rustoleum?? Or is there a better product???????

Re: OH Rust

I'm using Imperial Rust-No-More
made by wilson imperial...
found it at the local paint shop
the guy had por 15 and thats what I was after. but he asked me to try this said it was much better than por15 and so far I believe him.

its a one step deal that you put right on the rust, no prep needed other than getting rid if the worst flakes and such, i bought a quart for 18 bucks and a spray can for hard to reach areas for i think 10 bucks, goes a long way, i think a quart would be enough for your roof, leaves a grey primer that says can be top coated with anything....
