OH Rust

I am angry now. Everything was going great with the 74. I was really happy. I got it running great and then I was all ready going to change the vinyl top, it has cracks and is dry rotted. So just out of curiousity I lifted up part of the vinyl top and I found rust. So I got mad and ripped up a good piece of the top. It has a lot of rust, after some wire brushing and some tapping with a screw driver, it has some pin holes. Very mad right now. How do I take the trim pieces off?? Is the trim only for the vinyl top?? I am pissed. I don't want another custom car. I wanted a all og cruiser. With Blown suspension and all. Now I have to fix it, I wont be able to leave it alone. I'll post pics tommorow. I may end up selling it.

Re: OH Rust

Can't possibly be as bad as this. This was a "rust free" California car that had no rust anywhere but under the vinyl top. Sorry, I understand.

Re: OH Rust

That type of rust is pretty common even on cars from outside the "Rust Belt", Its a pain but no big deal to fix.

Look on the bright side would you rather have a few pinhole's in the roof or scale and holes all over the underside !!!

Re: OH Rust

Don't get her hopes all up and them dump her for some hidden rust. Its a cool car. I know its frustrating, but you will learn it won't be as hard as it seems. These cars with vinyl roofs WILL have rust even from califorina. My cars only rust issues we're on the roof, it was a CA car and didn't have a vinyl top.

Are pin holes the biggest issues? Are you planning on going back to a vinyl top?

If you not made of cash and don't really have superb welding skills or a donar car look into some good rust killers and put on a new top.
