Carb and intake swap

I have a factory 302 4bbl intake and oddball holley 4bbl carb that came with my torino when I bought it. I've shown both parts to my brother and he says that they're junk and that I should get an aftermarket intake and a speed demon 650 DP as well as better heads. I know that the carb needs to be rebuilt but how do I find out if it's even worth the metal that it's made out of? Right now I've got a pretty decent 2bbl sitting on about 2.5" worth of spacers and that gets the car scooting pretty well but when it comes to "GO FAST" there is no such thing as enough.

Ps: I should be able to get pics of the carb tomorow.

If it is a Holley Carb. You should be able to get the specs. for it from the Holley web site. Holley Performance Products Technical Library
The I.D. of the Carb. should be located on the front air horn.
