The engine code is the 5th position in the Vin #. That is definitely a 428 car unless he stold the hood....

Wow that is a nice find!..It looks like its very original..You don't often see the factory smog stuff still in place after all of these years..If its an SCJ it should have an extra little counterwieght down on the balancer...That air cleaner alone is worth a small fortune..Definetly a car worth restoring..

I'll be over there tomorrow and start digging it out. I have enough clues now to look for thanks to you guy's. Regardless of what it actually ends up being I'm very happy about it. Was last registered in '75. He told me before he passed away that he pulled the carb and put it somewhere in the barn and looks to me like it will still be in there...somewhere. will post tomorrow what I find. I'm gonna go right for that tag under the coil.

The differences between a CJ and SCJ are subtle but obvious... if you really got a SCJ 69 fairlane cobra... wow!!!

I love these guys who arent really sure when they are standing in front of a gold mine. "Uhh cant get to the door tag, but there is a R in the VIN somewhere" "Oh, I looked at the rearend and there isnt a tag on it or anything, but it has a big N right in the middle of it" HMMMM. LOL. I'm not poking fun, well......maybe I am. It is just very interesting to watch someone trip upon this gem and not really know what they have, when all of us at home are like "OH MY GOSH!" I am happy for you, and it tells me that the true barn finds CAN still be had, they just might be a little rough since all the good ones are probably restored or bought up. Incedentally, you can return the favor of all the free info you got here by letting us in on how much you were able to snatch this up for. What you paid has absolutely nothing to do with what it is truely worth or what you would ask for it. Nothing at all, it would just let us know where the market is at if one of us were to come across something similar. OK? Soooooooooo?
