Question found '69 428scj.....i think??

Hi all,

New here and may soon become a regular. I've known of this car for a few years now but recently became more interested. The owner is a casual aquaintance of mine and stopped over for a visit the other day. After he said he may sell it I asked some q's. It is a fastback,it has hoodlocks,it is a 428 4 speed for sure and he say's it has the drag pak. He cant remember if it has the oil cooler. Glass is all good. It has been parked in the dirt for at least 20 years and I know it is rusty, how bad I don't know. My question is if rusted beyond restorable but a true scj what COULD it be worth??? I know, I know that's a tough question but I'm just looking for a ballpark high value. I wont hold anyone to it LOL.
And what should I look for other than oil cooler? If I can just get a VIN
assuming it's original as he says, is that enough to know exactly what it is?

Thanks, Randy

Get the Vin# sure, but the Trim Data Tag is the most important other than the Engine code off the Vin.

Lots of great info here with pics.. 428 Cobra Jet vs. 428 Super Cobra Jet It's really tough to say what the drivetrain would be worth but if you can find someone who needs the particular date code that engine has it could be worth a fortune..

428 CJ and SCJ parts are worth a few bucks, make sure what your getting though, alot of them had 390s swapped when they scattered the 428's.... Plus Keep in mind the stuff is pushing 40years old.

Thanks for the info guy's. I'm not a hardcore car guy(yet) but I've been around ford's my whole life of 37 years. My brother had a '70 cobra torino with a cleveland,I had a "64 comet w/260 that I never did get to drive and we've had a bunch of flathead stuff from the 50's. I'm gonna stop by and see the car in a few weeks and I'll stop back here to fill ya all in on what I found. Even if it's not a scj I love the thrill of the hunt!!!

Re: found '69 428scj.....i think??

Well,it's been months since I originally posted and quite a turn of events around this car but...as of tonight it's mine. If you read my original post I was close to getting the owner to consider selling. He died a week and a half after I posted here. Needless to say it's taken months of gentle contact with his widow (that I didn't know) but tonight she said I could buy it...whoo whoo!!!... I think. Car is pretty rough and theres no keys so i couldn't get to the numbers but she rattled off the vin to me and there is an R in the middle of the number. My worst fear was that the oil pan rusted through but I went and looked at it today and it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would. I was mistaken though as it does not have hoodlocks. I have a pic but don't know how to upload here. If someone wants I can email them a pic and they can post it. I'm pretty excited.
