351C Worth?
I bought a 351C several years ago that was in a running Torino....I forget what year but I think it was a 71 or a 72...not sure.
Anyways, I was planning to squeeze it into a 65 Mustang until I came to my senses one day and have gone with a 302. It has sat in my garage since then.
My plan "B" was to put it in a 69 or 70 Mustang after I finished the 65. Unfortunately, I cannot go the 69/70 route and must put it on the market.
The casting # is D2AE-CA and the date code is 3B7. The engine is completely unmolested and is original from top to bottom. The only thing missing is the carb. It has the AC compressor and lines and also the power steering pump included.
Can anybody give me some ballpark numbers as to the worth of this beast?

Re: 351C Worth?
It's a 4 valve....4 barrel intake and has the "4" casting on the heads.

Re: 351C Worth?
I sold one about 5 years ago for 1000.00 , It was a Q code, 4v , 4 bolt main in need of rebuilding. There is also one on e-bay now for a buy it now of 1000.00 but no bids yet. Hope this helps.

Re: 351C Worth?
I would be inclined to say this: it you could fire it up, and it would run and not smoke, not rattle to hell and back, and sounded ok it could be worth $600-$800, just depends on how bad a guy wants it. IMHO.
I unloaded the last two 1972 351C 2 barrel engines I had for $300 each without even bothering to open them up, as one came from a wrecked 4 door that sat 20 years and didn't turn, and the other was something I picked up from a small farm town and needed to sell at the time because I knew someone wanted a 351c and I owed them a favor.
Have you popped the pan to confirm 4 bolt mains?
I would honestly pop one or two main caps, and look at the bearing, as it sounds like a canidate for rebuild.
Either that, or if you watch a show called GEARS on the SPEED channel, I watch the dude build a V8 powered bar stool.

Re: 351C Worth?
Much like Eliteman stated.
$300-$800 much will also depend on where you are located, since engine are mostly pick up items only. If you are on the West Coast you can expect to get more towards the lower end of the price range. Where are you located?

Re: 351C Worth?
I'm in Columbus Ohio. I'd really like to see this go to a Mustanger or Ford nut who's restoring their car and needs an original engine to use.
With the thing unmolested as it is, all the original parts on it, it must have some intrinsic value to the restorer.
I'm not looking to stuff my pockets....was hoping to simply get fair value.
Everything tends to come back around......both good and bad.

Re: 351C Worth?
I'd say take to the Mid-Ohio Spring Swap in Columbus next month. Maybe you will find something for the '65 that you need and use it as a bargaining tool. That all depends how bad and fast you want to off the engine, and if you want to go that route. Cleveland's are hard to come by, and considering it's a 4V with the heads, you may luck up and get more bang for your buck.
I've been down ther once and my feeling is you could kill 2 birds with one stone. Find ew goodies for the '65 and get what the cleveland is really worth. Additionally, since you're in the columbus area, maybe you know a vendor that can sell it for you.
Hey, it's always worth a try. And you have the who's who with regards to ford nuts there as well.

Re: 351C Worth?
Well, if I wasn't so far away and not working right now, I would more than gladly buy it off you for around $600 if it was a free turning engine as a spare for my '72 CJ, but sitting over here in the last of corn and surrounded by Torino parts cars...sorry man!
As far as selling it, take and steam clean all the grime off it, and take it out to the one of Ford shows, I don't recall but don't they have a big national Ford show in Ohio every year??
