'72-'76 Hood Clearance (big block, specifically)

I know there's a lot of room under the hood, but I'm curious if I'm going to need to cut and scoop to make room for an Edelbrock RPM intake on top of the 460 in my '75 Elite. I'm already sort of planning on having to, but I'd thought I'd ask. Any other big block guys here that have tried to fit it all under a stock hood?

I have a 72 torino. I am lucky as the GT hood ads several inches of clearance. I am basing the following on my car with a flat hood and a 460 with rpm intake. It will fit as long as you don't run an air cleaner and don't mind removing the hood insulation. It will be very close to the hood and you will need to pull out the air cleaner stud. I would figure on adding at least a cowl type hood.

Hood insulation is already gone, and yeah, an air cleaner would be nice to have... :-P

I figured as much. I've already looked a few hood scoop designs I'd be happy with. No cowl scoops, though. I'm trying to decide on a forward-facing style that compliments the lines of the hood as to not look any more out of place than it needs to be. Thanks for the input, though.

Re: '72-'76 Hood Clearance (big block, specifically)

I think the key to getting a scoop to look decent on these cars is to find one that is broad and "flat" as to not interrupt the natural lines of the hood. The early fox Mustang scoops aren't bad, but a little small. A much longer and wider scoop can gradually climb to the height required without looking like a plateau in the middle of the vast plane of sheet metal. I've got my eye on one called a "1967 Shelby Mustang style" that I think will look good. It's very long, wide, and a little over 3 inches high. I'll post something up when I have it.

The BOSS 429 scoop is very wide and long and is also about 3 inchs tall. I know Summit sells them, not sure about who else.

USBody.com is what you're looking for. Unfortunately, a Torino hood is different enough that it won't work on my Elite, or I'd really consider going this route. That's a lot of extra weight off the front end!

FYI. I have a 460 in a 73 car and stock flat hood. I have the Weiand Stealth and a drop base air cleaner. It has clearance, very little, but it clears without a special hood.
