I never said worthless... I said NOT worth $8K....

Who in the world expects to pay $8K for an old worn out car...

Re: 1969 Torino value

Well, belive it or not...people do that everyday!!
Compared to a Mustang, that Torino is still a bargain. If it was a clapped out Mustang with a 428, someone would be asking 20K+ in unrestored condition!!

Re: 1969 Torino value

I'll chime in. If you get rid of that car for 2K I'll take it and giggle the whole way home. Yeah id pay it, for a restorable formal roof cobra! Hell ide pay more, thats just because I think its one sexy car cant imagine why I would say that . But honestly most formal roof GT's in that condition go for 1500 - 3000. If I were the seller and someone offered my 1800 for it ide be insulted!!

I watch them on ebay and anywhere else I can find almost daily. The value for these cars have been very slowly increasing over the last year or so, but have started to level out with the economy. A number matching formal roof cobra jet anything these days is pricey, even for the torino.

That car was likely overhauled at 157k, they only 6 digit odometers. With everything there with the car, yeah it needs restored but for 8k plus restoration the seller will make money, if its done right. I'd say from the pics its worth anywhere between 5500 - 7500. Drag pack / toploader would give it more. And around 23k restored.

Good luck! Iv always wanted a true 69 cobra formal roof.

Re: 1969 Torino value

There is alot of good cars not yet reconized as a good car to have that in a few years we will be saying dag , I could of bought one like it for so in so . I donot think the 68 and 69 cobra cars have hit their peak yet of years to come .

As cars get more and more harder to find as stuffed under the hood with a 428 cj you will remember me typing this .

Just like a hurst olds , I know of a couple in great shape to be bought for under 2000 . The years have not took them yet as a rare car to hold on to .

I know where a true hemi cuda and a gto judge is . Judge is sitting in weeds , hemi sits in a barn rusting away . There will be a time you will say same thing about a 1968 428 scj 4 speed bucket seats cobra .

Dude.. It said 57K that was 28 years ago... Family work car from 1969 to 1980... I don't see it going 157K in 12 years... Especially since he got the car from mom and pop, they drove it for 6 years then gave it to him and he had the engine rebuilt 5 years later... I am bothered by this. It was the 70's and 80's man...

Anyhow, There aren't any formal roofs that have sold on e-bay in the last 90 day's, and just because you might see 20 of them with 30K price tags it sure as hell don't mean they're getting $30K for them.... That's why they keep going back up...

Re: 1969 Torino value

Only Ford guys would be trying to down price that car. LOL

If that was a 440 GTX it would be triple that price.
My point... a real 69 cobra in formal roof or fastback is a great investment... the 428 was one of, if not the greatest muscle car street engines ever produced. Gobs of stump pulling torque and all with off the shelf parts at ford at the time. An engineering feat... Just ask the drag race world on April 1, 1968.
IMO, these cars are underpriced and as time goes on they will be recognized for what they are worth... much like what the 440 six packs and LS6's (what I would consider their direct competition) were 10-15 years ago.
Try and buy a 1970 LS6 Chevelle in any condition and the this FORD looks like a bargain.
IMO 8000 grand is a good buy... and well over 20 restored....and increasing.
The CJ to a restorer is worth close to that. I had a guy buy a CJ block (he needed it date coded for a councours resto) for 1900 alone!

Re: 1969 Torino value

Thank you all for responding to my request. And thanks for the advice. And thank you most of all for the discussion. A couple of times I started to get a little defensive and list details and history but I'm not trying to sell the car here. And most of you don't care how the crease (pic) got there or how the chromed trim around the right tail light got bent or why there's a gap between passenger door and frame. Hey, it still opens, shuts, and locks, I don't use that door anyway.

It was overhauled at 57,000 miles as just a tear down and reassemble. The overhaul was not necessary, there was nothing wrong with the engine. Let me reiterate, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the engine. It runs great, a gentle rumbling roar.

This Cobra does not have power steering. And before I go any futher, I'd like to state for the record, if there is a record, I'm a woman and steering that car when it is stationary requires upper body strength, which typical to my gender, I'm lacking. That's how the crease got there, tight parking space, impatience. However, when the car is cruising the steering is amazingly responsive.

Here's what I got: I averaged the opinions and came up with $1925 for the $1200 to $2500 values and $8900 for the$5K and higher values using the highest estimates. Huh? I'm not selling my car for $1925 unless I have the engine removed. I can always use the power plant on a boat.

For those of you hard core Ford muscle car fans, this is what I got off the door plate and information from the decoding info off the Fairlane site.
9K45RXXXXXX
1969 Kansas City, Missouri; Torino Hard Top Formal Coupe; 8 cylinder 428 CID Cobra Jet Ram Air Induction 1 4BBL
65E -- Hard top Formal Coupe
I -- Lime Gold or Medium Lime Metallic
CA -- Not sure about that code but the interior is definitely black; vinyl, headliner, and carpet.
Date15K-- October 15, 1968 (purchased in June 1969)
DSO 71--Los Angeles
Axle-- 0
Transmission--U Automatic (Cruisomatic) C-6

I'm not sure if it's the Cobra Jet or the Super Cobra Jet. I'm thinking about getting a Marti report done just don't know if it's worth it since I'm ready to part with the Cobra.

TorinoStyle2, SVTforme, Rcode427, and Mdula thank you for your support.

Re: 1969 Torino value

Absolutely get the marti report!
The 50$ version is all you need and it will help authenticate the car and add value... buyer piece of mind.

Sorry, but a 1500-2000 dollar value is well... freakin laughable.
You could pull the motor and sell it alone for double that! Then there's the staggered rear shocks and the N case 9-inch... the ram-air assembly with gasket is worth 1500. The list goes on and on for a real cobra.
But please dont do that... sell it as a unit to a Ford guy that will restore it and do what is right with it.

FE: You've been taking alot of heat lately... and rightfully so. Its one thing to be cheap... its another to be downright stupid.
Who in the world expects to pay $8K for an old worn out car...
The Cobra Jet is not a car... its a detroit icon. Its the same as saying a hemi car is just a car. Cmon.

Re: 1969 Torino value

Did you just say that the motor alone is worth $4,000???

Dude I LOVE taking heat

When you guy's say these huge amounts are valid, you fail to mention that the fastback CJ Torinos Like this one
eBay Motors: Ford : Torino (item 190211802362 end time Apr-12-08 17:41:22 PDT) got to $8K the first time and only $7 K the second time it was listed...

Does that mean that a 428 being put back in the engine bay where it belongs would increase the value of this nicely done car by $18,000 dollars?
I am friggin gonna buy one if that's the case!

Cobra Gal, I wasn't trying to offend you, I just look at cars diffrently than anyone else...

I buy a 4 door Falcon for $500 and sell it for $1,200, then, I buy a better condition 2 door Falcon for $340 bucks, and nobody want's to buy it...

I get none of the breaks... I've owned ONE 428 Car and it was a 66 T-bird, I sold it running really nicely, for $1,800 because nobody in the entire state would give me $2,000 for it...

I would Love to continue to hear stories of your Torino, and watch you work to bring it back to it's original glory.

Welcome to FM, and enjoy the hell out of that $8,000 commuter
