not starting when hot

302 2v, newly rebuilt, reman. carb, new points, starter, alternator, voltage regulator, plug wires, inline fuel filter.

The problem i'm having is that it starts fine, runs fine. When it gets up to operating temp for a while and turn engine off, won't start up for a while. The engine appears to be fludding maybe.
the heat choke is not connected at this point, i have it open so it dosn't run high rpm.

Any idea of what the problem may be. could it be the choke?

Thanks

Re: not starting when hot

check you float levels if it is flooding out, they maybe too high. You maybe experiencing vapor lock. Make sure your fuel lines are routed away from high temperature items. Also confirm you are getting spark at the plugs. Points might be sticking. Lot's of little things. Confirm it is getting gas. You say it maybe flooding. Ok, now we need to confirm it is getting spark. Start tracing things back from the spark plug until you find the culprit.

Re: not starting when hot

often times on old cars the cam in the distrebuter is worn out. This means when you set the point gap right you have to much dewll time making for week spark. A hot engine needs good spark because the heat in the chamber makes for more compression . I had this problem with mine. A pertronics kit fixed that.

Re: not starting when hot

I think you were fludding....

Should check the needle and seat and the float level in the carb...

But for sure check for proper spark when it's hot also! Proper point gap is a godsend for good running.

Re: not starting when hot

is it turning over and not starting, or not turnig over? I don't know what fludding is, haha, but you may also want to take a good look at your starter. Old starters will sometimes work when they are cold, but then after using the engine for a while or turning it off and letting it sit, the starters "heat soak" and will refuse to start. Had this problem on a bronco once, new starter and heat shield fixed it.

new starter
it will turn over. would the choke staying open cause this problem? It's not connected so i opened it not to have it running choked.

PS: I can't spell

Re: not starting when hot

you say you think it might be flooding. Ok you are getting gas, but have you checked for spark? Even though the engine is turning over, is it supplying the juice to the plugs?
