Nice Hood Scoop for my Elite, or any Torino

I posted before concerning hood-clearance issues with 72-76 Torinos, and that I was looking for a hood scoop to give me a little extra room for an edelbrock RPM intake on top of my big-block 521. Here's what I got:

It's very similar in style to the Torino sport hoods, and seems to compliment the lines of the hood very well. It should add just enough clearance for the RPM intake (which sits about 1.5" higher than stock) with a little wiggle room to spare with a standard 14x3 air cleaner.

This scoop is called a "1967 Shelby type" and measures 40 7/8 x 30 5/8 x 3 3/8 tall. It came from "Motorsports Parts USA" which makes a lot of different fiberglass parts for very reasonable prices. They've got an ebay store: eBay Store - Motorsports Fibercars: Fiberglass Scoops, Fiberglass Bumpers, Fiberglass Hoods

That looks good.
I have a 74 Elite that I am looking to put a hood scoop on. The guy before me installed a Edelbrock Performer intake, and there wasn't quite enough clearance for it, now there are some small dents in the hood. How much did that scoop cost?

I paid $53.00 plus shipping, total for me was $76.78; an amazing price for a fiberglass scoop like this! They don't have any listed in their ebay store at the moment, but I'm sure they could hook you up if you send them a message on there.

BTW- Your Elite looks really nice. I'm blacking out some of my trim but nowhere near to the extent yours is. I also think it's funny we have the same interior and similar Grant steering wheel! Just remember I found this scoop first!

Do you plan on cutting out the openings of the scoop to make it functional?

Definitely! I'm rebuilding the 460 as a 521, and I'll take as much air as I can get! Going to use one of those K&N filter lids, too, to help suck the air in from the scoop. This scoop is very long, wide, and low, so it won't really provide any "ram air" effect, but it will be an excellent cool-air intake. And it's nice to hear the secondaries on the carb howl, too...

That scoop solves my all of my clearence problems and looks great. Didnt think it would be that cheap to. Are you gonna put the scoop on yourself or have a body shop do it?? It would be a great way to get a free shirt on the tech exchange

That was going to be my next question. Also, are you going to put the scoop right over the trim running up the hood?

Re: Nice Hood Scoop for my Elite, or any Torino

The scoop won't be going on until after the initial body work I'm having done to the car... I need to have everything "stock" in order to get antique plates; after that, I can make a few changes without any problems. I won't be doing it myself, either.. it'll be going on when I get the 521 installed and the final "good" paint job. I'm going to keep the center hood trim from the scoop forward.
