One thing to take in to consideration it the added weight of the 460/C6, etc. Especially over the front wheels, I would definately look in to larger front brakes, springs, sway bar, etc.
Even with my mild Cleveland, I've still had people ask if it's a big block...especially after propelling a 4 door land yacht that well.
I'd build the Cleveland if it were me...also, you have a better selection of transmissions that'll bolt up without expensive adapters. AOD...with internal upgrades to handle the power, 4R70W with a Baumann controller, several 5/6 speed manuals...all since it uses the small block bellhousing bolt pattern.

You won't make a drivable 600-700 N/A hp out of a Cleveland...... + the part selection for BBF's is alot better than Clevelands..... Aftermarket heads, More Rotating Assemblies, Much Easier to find, ect..........

Re: 460 for a 351 Cleveland
Yeah but you don't need 600-700 HP to have fun on the street the OP has not stated his intent yet so we dont really know what he wants

Cleveland Forever!
Finally Took The Advice And Refeshed My Cleveland .40 Over With Kb Flats, Weiand Single Plane Intake, 650 Db, Comp Cam High Energy, And Topping It Off With 125 Shot Of Juice. Also Ported And Polished The Heads With Hp Valves And Springs. All, Including Machine Work, For Under $2000.
I'd Agree With The Cleveland With Regards To Too Much Work. True, There Are More Parts Out There For A 460, But If You Stroke The Cleveland To An Agressive 408, And Some Juice, You'll Easily Be @ 500+ And Lighter @ That.

Re: 460 for a 351 Cleveland
I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I just saw this thread and I have a similar situation. I have a 73 gts with a 351C 4V/C4. Runs great, rebuilt engine/trans about two years ago. Problem: I just bought a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP(supercharged 3.8), and with a little bit of modding(headers, PCM tune, cold air intake, etc.) it will blow my Torino away. This drives me crazy, so I am determined to reverse this situation. My dilemma is: do I pull the cleveland and stroke it, or build the 460/C6 I have in the garage. I am not worried about finding mounts, etc. for the 460, I know it's doable. I am leaning toward the torque of the 460 though. Although it would be cheaper to stroke the cleveland since it's already built. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Re: 460 for a 351 Cleveland
change your gears to 3.70 or something similar, install a shift kit, and get a built carb. Those three simple things will allow your GTS to punch the Gran Prix right in the face.

Re: 460 for a 351 Cleveland
Stash the 351C in you garage for a future restoration and build you a 557 stroker with some nice P-51's....... You'll never look back..... or is it "you'll be looking back" to figure out where th GP is.............

Re: 460 for a 351 Cleveland
the Pontiac one reason it is faster? It has better gears and more in the tranny 3:70 rear end gears on a car with 3 speed auto not the best idea, but if you put those gears or hell even 4:11's behind an AOD you will have better mileage overall better low end power and an OD gear for the highway

I agree completely, if the budget allows, go BBF. More airflow, more cid options, more parts nowadays. These guys talk in ridiculous power numbers and the cost of parts are not significantly more than a C. More than a 302? sure, but VERY affordable compared to the FEs I play with
Even a good headed street 460 would need a much more radical C build to run with it. Making the 460 more drivable and easy on the wallet for regular driving.
Thats doesnt mean the C wont be cool if the budget wont allow the swap, but with the heads available, the 385 series just cant be beat nowadays for power for dollar IMO
